This book provides a theoretical and practical introduction to Business Optimization using mathematical programming. The material covered provides a good background as an introduction to the novice modeler, a useful reference book for the experienced modeler, and a launching pad for the development of new modeling ideas. The student, researcher or practitioner will appreciate the details of the modeling process and the `tricks of the trade´ to solve realistic and complex models. In particular, by tailoring the book around a commercially available software package the authors illustrate the details that determine the success or failure of the application of modeling.
The book describes and teaches how mixed-integer optimization is used in industry, primarily in the process industry, but also in other industries such as the paper and metal industry or energy industry, how problems can be modeled and ultimately successfully solved.
